Marijuana Or Hemp: Does CBDs Plant Source Matter?

Currently, there are two different types of plants that are used in the extraction and manufacturing process of cannabidiol, popularly known as CBD.

These plants both belong to the cannabis genus and are marijuana and hemp. Both plants are then further cultivated into a range of different strains that contain especially high concentrations of certain cannabinoids.

Since CBD is CBD regardless of the plant from which it is sourced, do you really need to concern yourself with the type of plant the manufacturer uses?

Does hemp CBD oil for sale online vary from other CBD oil that might come from marijuana or that doesn’t specify a specific source crop?

There are a few different reasons why it may not matter and other reasons why it matters a great deal.

Why It Shouldn’t Matter

In a perfect world, it wouldn’t really matter whether CBD was derived from hemp or marijuana because CBD is a common chemical compound in both plants. There’s nothing that differentiates CBD derived from marijuana and CBD derived from hemp; in its pure form, it provides the same effects.

This sounds great on paper, but CBD oil’s purity depends on extraction and refining methods that always isolate 100% pure cannabidiol without any other substances, including similar cannabinoids like THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBDa (cannabidiolic acid) and CBG (cannabigerol).

In reality, it’s not unheard of for these cannabinoids to be present in CBD extract. Even the most careful extraction methods can leave behind trace amounts. Fortunately, high-quality CBD manufacturing processes can help to ensure levels of these non-CBD compounds are so minimal they do not provide any significant effect.

Presence of CBDa and CBG should not be a major concern as they also do not provide psychoactive effects and may even offer their own health benefits that are similar to CBD. THC, however, is a psychoactive component of cannabis plants and will often intoxicate the user.

Psychoactive effects aside, THC is not necessarily harmful or high risk, depending on the individual. It is sometimes combined with CBD in some medications to provide a range of symptom management benefits. Individuals who are already using medicinal marijuana, THC concentrates, or even recreational marijuana products may not take issue to any possible THC contents in CBD oil.

Why It Really Matters

Under the current CBD market circumstances, you may want to yield on the side of caution and make sure you purchase CBD oil that’s specifically sourced from industrial hemp and fully evaluated for any non-CBD contents.

Legality can be an issue depending on where you live. If the CBD oil is derived from marijuana or contains any notable amounts of THC, it may be considered an illicit substance, could cause psychoactive effects, and even appear on a drug test.

Since industrial hemp is specifically grown to have no significant levels of THC and naturally has higher concentrations of CBD, it’s a more ideal crop for obtaining high quality, pure CBD. Oil that contains this type of CBD may sometimes be referred to as hemp CBD oil or CBD hemp oil, but such terms may also be used to describe CBD that’s combined with hempseed oil.

If you want to ensure you’re getting a product that doesn’t contain any significant levels of non-CBD cannabinoids, won’t cause intoxication, and is derived from legal plant sources, then seek out a supplier who submits their products for third-party testing and analysis to ensure the purity and quality of CBD they use.

They should also provide clear answers on where they source their hemp crops to create the CBD, whether that’s in the United States or elsewhere. If you’re looking for CBD oil for sale online and you find a seller that seems unwilling to disclose this information, you may want to find a more helpful provider who is eager to answer your questions.

Any extra quality assurance steps taken by a CBD oil producer are not required by any governing body, as CBD health supplements are not yet regulated by the FDA. Quality assurance is solely in the hands of the manufacturer, so you’ll have to do your research and choose CBD from sellers who are willing to demonstrate their reputability.

New York City Adds More Exceptions To Pre-Employment Marijuana Testing Ban

An ambitious campaign to decriminalize psychedelics in Washington, D.C., is one step closer to placing their measure on the November ballot with the formal submission of tens of thousands of voter signatures. Organizers have been scrambling for weeks to collect enough signatures from D.C. voters by Monday’s deadline amid historically difficult circumstances: a global pandemic, months of stay-at-home orders and protests over racism and police violence that filled the streets of the nation’s capital. But with the help of innovative signature-gathering techniques and allies flown in from across the country, advocates said they had successfully submitted upwards of 35,000 signatures—more than enough to qualify the initiative. If approved by voters, Initiative 81 would make enforcement of laws against plant- and fungus-based psychedelics among the “lowest law enforcement priorities” for the Metropolitan Police Department. It would not, however, legalize or reduce penalties for the subs

Charlotte Figi The Girl Who Inspired A CBD Movement Has Died At Age 13

Charlotte had recently been hospitalized due to pneumonia, breathing problems and seizures. She was treated as a likely case of Covid-19, her mother, Paige Figi, said Wednesday, although she tested negative for the virus. “Charlotte is no longer suffering. She is seizure-free forever,” a family friend wrote on Paige Figi’s Facebook page, announcing Charlotte’s death. “Thank you so much for all of your love.” Charlotte became a symbol of the possibilities of CBD after CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta told her story in the documentary “Weed.” In the film, Charlotte was shown to be a playful child who was overcome by horrific seizures, which were quelled with Charlotte’s Web, a marijuana strain named in her honor. Charlotte had Dravet syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy which was not controlled by medication. The Stanley brothers, marijuana growers in Colorado, were crossbreeding a strain of marijuana high in CBD and low in THC, its psychoactive ingredient. After Charlo

Virginia CBD Program Criticized As Multistate Medical Cannabis Operators Gain Edge

Seven companies are challenging a CBD licensing process in Virginia that resulted in multistate medical marijuana operators getting a majority of available licenses. The appeals called the process “wildly prejudicial.” Out of 51 applicants for five vertically integrated CBD and THC-A licenses, multistate operators received three, a situation that spurred the appeals, The Virginian-Pilot reported. Applicants filing the appeals complained the closed-meeting review process lacked fairness and transparency. One consultant to an applicant said the selections felt “predetermined.” The Virginia Board of Pharmacy reportedly sent information to the applicants in December explaining its selections, but some applicants weren’t satisfied. A board spokeswoman wrote in an email to the Pilot that the board “does not comment on pending litigation.” The five winning applicants , called “pharmaceutical processors,” have a year from winning the licenses to become operational. The multistate
