Wife Of Prohibitionist Group Co-Founder Backs Reclassifying Marijuana In Congressional Bid

Amid her campaign for Congress, the wife of one of the most prominent voices advocating for keeping marijuana illegal says that she supports federally reclassifying cannabis from its current restrictive status. Amy Kennedy is one of the Democratic candidates for Congress seeking to unseat Rep. Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey, after he flipped his party affiliation to Republican and pledged his “undying support” for President Trump. Kennedy’s husband is Patrick Kennedy, a former Democratic congressman from Rhode Island and a co-founder of Smart Approaches to Marijuana (SAM), the nation’s leading cannabis prohibitionist group. Current candidate Kennedy, like SAM, opposes broad marijuana legalization—but she also disagrees with the group’s platform on at least one key point. Kennedy wants marijuana removed from Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act, she recently told The Press of Atlantic City. That departs from SAM doctrine, which calls rescheduling “neither necessary nor desir...

Sephora Will Now Be Regulating Products That Claim To Be Made With CBD

Sephora is making an effort to regulate products that claim to contain CBD . The beauty retailer announced its “CBD Standards” on Feb. 26 that “sets parameters around CBD potency, ingredient quality, and manufacturing processes,” making it the first national retailer to implement stricter CBD standards. “Search for CBD on Sephora.com has increased over 1,000 times since 2018, so there’s clearly client interest in these kind of products,” Cindy Deily, Sephora’s VP of skin care merchandising, said in a statement. “As customers are looking to navigate this growing category, we saw the need to provide transparency and quality assurance.” According to a release, before beauty brands can be considered CBD compliant at Sephora, they must be up to the brand’s Clean at Sephora standard, and they must also contain full or broad spectrum CBD that’s grown domestically. Additionally, all CBD products should be triple tested by a third party and provide certification of said testing, ensuring ...

Presidential Candidates Clash Over Marijuana Legalization At Democratic Debate

The Democratic presidential debate in South Carolina on Tuesday revealed fissures in how the candidates view marijuana reform, with former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg doubling down on his opposition to legalization and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) facing questions about the logistics of his plan to legalize in all 50 days on the first day of his presidency. The exchange began when a moderator asked Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) whether Sanders’s proposal to use executive action to legalize cannabis nationwide on the day he takes office and also expunge prior marijuana convictions was realistic. “It is realistic to want to legalize marijuana. I want to do that too,” Klobuchar said. “I also think you need to look back at people’s records. You maybe can’t do that on day one, as he said. I think you want a process that you go through because there are too many people that have things on their records that stopped them from getting jobs.” The senator went on to say that legalization ...

Deal On Marijuana Banking Bill Is Close GOP Senator Says

Marijuana legalization is “on track” in Mexico, a top senator said on Monday, announcing that several committees are convening to tackle the issue this week. Sen. Ricardo Monreal of the ruling MORENA party said that four panels have started the process of reviewing comprehensive legislation that deals with medical, recreational and industrial cannabis reform. The committees are set to meet to go over the draft bill on Wednesday. “There is no limit on the content,” he said, referring to the scope of the legislation, according to a translation. “I think it is worth taking advantage of the political moment to be able to legislate broadly on this cannabis issue.” Monreal said he has “confidence” that the Justice, Health, Legislative Studies and Public Safety Committees will reach a consensus on the bill. He also told reporters that he’s spoken to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and that he “expressed his respect” for the legislative process and has “no problem with the Senate ...

3 Women In The CBD Industry Share Their Tips And Product Recommendations For Sleep

Ask anyone who knows me and they’ll tell you I’m one of the last people they’d expect to get excited about CBD or cannabis products. It’s not because I’m anti or judge anyone who uses them — you do you! It’s simply been one of those categories that feels like another “thing” I don’t necessarily need to add to my already convoluted daily regimen. In fact, I’m working to streamline my life: from the products I use, to the food I eat, and the clothing I wear (I’m morphing into quite the minimalist these days and it feels truly liberating). Despite not being an avid user of CBD or cannabis (the one product I’ve tried is this Wildflower Healing Stick from Poplar for menstrual cramps, which felt super tingly and did help to alleviate pain), the buzz surrounding the industry is certainly unavoidable, and I’ve actually become curious about one topic in particular: sleep. I’ve always been a night owl and often struggle to fall asleep before midnight, one, sometimes two a.m., yet I haven’...
